Private dwelling, Solihull
The client approached A P Architects to assist with self build project to create a new large family dwelling, replacing the derelict house previously occupying the site.
Located in a much sought-after area in Solihull, the client was keen that the dwelling maximised the sites potential, boasting contemporary design features with traditional forms. The brief was to create at least bedrooms, a large open plan living space overlooking the garden and a separate recreational area for teenage children.
Proposals for a 3 storey dwelling, with the second storey within the roof space offered a street scene elevation that was in keeping with the neighbouring dwellings. A feature glazed entrance area with double height space was created to create a sense of arrival to the dwelling. The rear elevation introduced a balanced palette of addition materials of glass, render and cladding to create a modern feel.
A focal central hall was created with feature outlook to the front and galleried landing. The inclusion of a mechanical ventilation heat recovery (MVHR) system and PV array has ensured the dwelling is sustainable with an A rated energy performance certificate.
A P Architects were appointed for planning stage design and technical stage.
